A Short Review of My Life as a Teacher for 2010

People say ‘Being a teacher is an easy job, you don’t have go back late  or it’s not an office-hour job.’
Some of them even say, ‘Being a teacher is my last option. If I still don’t get hired, then I will apply for KPLI, DPLI or GSSTor, ‘The salary of this job is lower than to other professional jobs.

They do not understand our job as a teacher. They simply look down at us.  They do not know anything about a teacher’s life. Life as a teacher is not always easy and smooth. Why? We have many responsibilities on our shoulders. Only teachers know the challenges in education world. Now I know the hardships my teachers had to deal with before. Teachers play many roles in school. Teacher is EVERYTHING.

Let’s go back to the topic.

This is my review of my life as TEACHER in SMA Nilai. Well, to be honest, I am not a good English teacher. Why? There are many reasons for it.

Last week, I asked my students on my teaching style. Their comments really opened my eyes to realise my weaknesses.

Alhamdulillah.

I made a promise to myself that I will improve my skills in teaching. Mr Rashid has helped me a lot last year. Thanks to Mr Rashid. I will perform better this year.

2010 was too challenging for me. I have to learn new things that I didn’t learn in UNISEL. Nadiah is now an English Teacher. I was tensed with it.

First 5 months as a teacher were miserable time for me. I can still remember clearly that feeling. I was not able to adapt with working life and I have a thought to find another job. Plus, I do not like teaching English because I felt that I am not qualified to be an English teacher. I do not have the confidence to stand in front of my students.

My confidence was affected by my experience as a trainee teacher before. I was too afraid to use my knowledge and what I have learned in UNISEL - even to talk in English.

I am so glad that I have many wonderful friends in SMAN. They always cheer me up when I  am down.

I was sorry for my students because of my attitudes. I got angry easily. I will lose my focus if I’m moody. So, negative attitude must be changed!

Well, I can conclude that 2010 was a good year after all even though I faced obstacles.

Whatever I do is for the sake of Allah.

Insha Allah.
